[origin: WO9104807A1] A device for making wrapped wire mesh rolls with a winding device (3) having a driven winding drum (4) for rolling the wire mesh supplied and a guiding device for feeding the wire mesh into the drum, a stripping device (23) by means of which the wound wire mesh roll may be axially moved in relation to the winding drum, a gripping mechanism having at least two mutually independent gripping arm units (19, 20, 21) which can be pivoted from above and below against the outer surface of the wire mesh roll, whereby the gripping mechanism can be moved to freely selectable positions via a carriage (16) movable on rails (17) parallel to the winding drum axis and a wrapping device for the wound wire mesh roll with a wrapping frame (28) which is also movably fitted on a carriage (26) perpendicularly to the winding drum axis and can be moved into freely selectable wrapping positions with this carriage on rails (25) parallel to the winding drum axis (x-x), whereby the gripping arms of each gripping arm unit may be pivoted away to release the wrapping frame from the wire mesh roll.
