Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0446654A1] 2.1. Masts are known which consist of two profiles running parallel to one another at a distance apart. Masts of this type, however, are often not flexurally rigid enough in order to be used in particular for higher mast structures. The invention is intended to provide an especially flexurally rigid mast with an especially effective aerodynamic action. <??>2.2. It is proposed to design the two mast profiles in such a way that the opposite inner surfaces are of convex design, that is, they create a bulged intermediate space between them. If the luff of the sail is held as tightly as possible without bulging at the mast, the vessel can sail very close-hauled. <IMAGE>
