To form stacks of material webs (7a) of defined length which consist of zig-zag folded web sections, the leading web sections cut off beforehand from an endless web are removed from the trailing web sections, forming a gap L. Zur Stapelbildung von aus zick- zack- förmig gefalteten Bahnabschnitten bestehenden Materialbahnen (7a) definierter Länge werden die zuvor von einer Endlosbahn abgetrennten, voreilenden Bahnabschnitte unter Bildung einer Lücke L von den nacheilenden Bahnabschnitten entfernt. Hierzu sind drei parallele Förderbänder (11 , 12, 13) vorgesehen, von denen das mittlere Förderband (12) periodisch beschleunigt antreibbar ist und alle drei Förderbänder mit in Förderrichtung versetzt zueinander angeordneten, separat ansteuerbaren Reihen (18, 19, 21) von Saugöffnungen (17) zum Halten der jeweils nacheilenden bzw. voreilenden Bahnabschnitte versehen sind. <IMAGE>
