[origin: EP0447797A2] The invention relates to a sound damping element with surface mouldings. To improve sound damping it is proposed that the surface mouldings should be grooves open to the outside which run parallel to one another, are separated from one another by bulbous bridges and whose cross-section exhibits a slightly undercut shape, so that the sound inlet slit graduates into a broadening internal area of the groove. <IMAGE>
