[origin: WO9007132A1] A light trap free from backscattering for linearly polarized light comprises a polygonal housing, the side faces of which are parallel to an imaginary axis passing through the centre of symmetry and are arranged at constant angles to each other and to the input surface. Each side face is provided with grey filters with shiny smooth surfaces. Light-reflecting masks are arranged behind the grey filters in the path of the transmitted beam. The light entering the light trap strikes the first grey filter at the Brewster angle, and is largely absorbed by the first grey filter. Some of the incident light is reflected at the surface and the next face of the grey filter and at the light-reflecting surface of the mask to the next grey filter, which it also strikes at the Brewster angle. The serial connection of several grey filters results in a light trap virtually free of backscattering.

Un piège à lumière exempt de rétrodiffusion pour de la lumière linéairement polarisée comprend un boîtier polygonal dont les faces latérales sont parallèles à un axe imaginaire qui traverse le centre de symétrie et présentent entre elles et par rapport à la face d'entrée des angles constants. Chaque face latérale est pourvue de filtres gris à surfaces lisses brillantes. Derrière les filtres gris, dans le trajet du faisceau transmis, sont agencés des caches photoréfléchissants. La lumière qui pénètre dans le piège à la lumière frappe le premier filtre gris sous un angle d'incidence brewstérienne et est absorbée en grande partie par celui-ci. Une partie de la lumière incidente est réféchie par la surface et par la face de sortie du filtre gris, ainsi que par la surface photoréfléchissante du cache, jusqu'au filtre gris suivant, qu'elle frappe également sous un angle d'incidence brewstérienne. Le montage en série de plusieurs filtres gris permet d'obtenir un piège à lumière pratiquement exempt de rétrodiffusion.
