[origin: EP0448764A1] The invention relates to a programmable hearing aid (2) with microphone (10), earpiece (11), amplifier and transmission section (12) which can be adjusted to different transmission characteristics, a control unit (13, 14) with receiver and memory and with an external control device (1) with memory, transmitter and programming device (3, 4). To avoid any DC coupling between control section and hearing aid in a bidirectional signal transmission between the hearing aid and the programming device and in the transmission of data from the hearing aid back to the external control or programming unit, it is proposed that the receiver of the hearing aid and the transmitter of the external control device are constructed for a wireless bidirectional exchange of control signals by means of a control logic (9, 15) determining the transmission direction to receiver and transmitter sections (8 and 14, respectively). <IMAGE>
