Infrared light barriers or video control systems are used, as is known, in monitoring bounded, plane areas, for example a level crossing. However, both solutions have the disadvantage that they are unreliable or are of a very complicated design. The invention provides a video control system which permits reliable evaluation using simple means. For this purpose, a camera is used to take and store two fields in each case, one being taken without flash, and the other with. A differential image, now containing only signal components caused by the light of the flash is obtained from the two fields. Given the presence of a three-dimensional object in the monitored area, there is produced on the side of the object averted from the flash a shadow signal which is evaluated and, if necessary, fed to the alarm-triggering device. <IMAGE>

Bei der Überwachung von eingegrenzten, ebenen Gebieten, z.B. ein Bahnübergang, werden bekannterweise Infrarot-Lichtschranken oder Videokontroll-Systeme eingesetzt. Beide Lösungen haben aber den Nachteil, daß sie entweder unzuverlässig sind oder daß sie in ihrem Aufbau sehr aufwendig werden. Mit der Erfindung wird eine Videokontroll-Einrichtung geschaffen, die eine sichere Auswertung mit einfachen Mitteln zuläßt. Dazu werden mit einer Kamera jeweils zwei Halbbilder aufgenommen und abgespeichert, wobei eines mit, das andere ohne Blitz aufgenommen wird. Aus beiden wird ein Differenzbild gewonnen, welches nur noch Signalanteile enthält, die vom Licht des Blitzes verursacht werden. Bei Vorhandensein eines dreidimensionalen Objektes im Überwachungsgebiet entsteht auf der vom Blitz abgewandten Seite des Objekts ein Schattensignal, das ausgewertet wird und gegebenenfalls zur Alarmauslösung führt. <IMAGE>
