[origin: EP0451577A2] In a device for checking and sorting coins of different values by means of a coin tester connected to a control unit and with an outlet for admissible coins, the coin tester is followed by a sorting unit having three flaps. The sorting unit allocates the coins to different coin channels, leading to coin-stacking tubes, by means of electromagnets activated by the control unit according to the coins detected and coupled to the flaps. A first flap of the sorting unit can close two respective coin paths and is followed by a second and a third flap which can respectively be switched to and fro between two coin channels. The individual flaps of the sorting unit (13) are designed as narrow guide levers (21, 22, 23) which are mounted pivotably between a front wall (19) and a rear wall (20) of the sorting unit (13) in such a way that the coins roll over their periphery on the guide levers (21, 22, 23) in an upright manner. <IMAGE>
