[origin: EP0453622A1] The yarn is guided through a yarn guide (3) which is driven by a stepping motor (10) via a cord (7). According to the invention, the stepping motor (10) is controlled by a programmable control as a function of a preselected winding law. For the purpose of rapid reacceleration of the yarn guide (3) after a reversal point is reached, a spring element exerts on the latter a force directed towards the centre point of the traversing interval. It consists of two oppositely acting torsion bars, each of which remains deflected out of its position of equilibrium when the yarn guide (3) is positioned within the traversing interval. The effective length of a torsion bar can be respectively reduced by means of an electrically actuable coupling and its spring constant thereby increased. The stepping motor (10) is operated approximately at three times the nominal current in the region of the reversal points. <IMAGE>
