A controller with a crank mechanism (13, 14) driving the knife (15) and with a detector (22) which detects the top dead centre of the crank mechanism (13, 14) has a toothed disc (21) revolving synchronously with the crankshaft (13) of the crank mechanism and having a plurality of teeth (4, 3, 2, 1, 0), of which at least one (4, 0) is recognisable for an electronic evaluation unit and the last tooth (0) in the direction of rotation preferably lies opposite the detector (22) in the top dead centre position of the knife (15). This toothed disc makes it possible for the electronic evaluation and control unit connected in series with the detector (22) to stop the folding knife (15) at top dead centre every time, irrespective of the speed of the machine and of the state of wear of the clutch and brake unit (12). It furthermore allows the position of the knife above the folding table to be detected and thus the sheet spacing to be reduced to a minimum. <IMAGE>

Eine Steuerung mit einem das Schwert (15) antreibenden Kurbeltrieb (13, 14) und einem den oberen Totpunkt des Kurbeltriebs (13, 14) erfassenden Fühler (22) weist eine synchron mit der Kurbelwelle (13) des Kurbeltriebs umlaufende Zahnscheibe (21) mit mehreren Zähnen (4, 3, 2, 1, 0) auf, von denen wenigstens einer (4, 0) für eine Auswerteelektronik erkennbar und vorzugsweise der in Drehrichtung letzte Zahn (0) in der oberen Totpunktlage des Schwertes (15) dem Fühler (22) gegenüberliegt. Diese Zahnscheibe ermöglicht es der dem Fühler (22) nachgeschalteten Auswerte- und Steuerelektronik, das Falzschwert (15) unabhängig von der Drehzahl der Maschine und vom Verschleißzustand der Kupplungs- und Bremseinheit (12) stets im oberen Totpunkt stillzusetzen. Sie gestattet ferner, die Lage des Schwertes über dem Falztisch zu erfassen und so den Bogenabstand auf ein Minimum herabzudrücken. <IMAGE>
