[origin: EP0453630A1] The invention relates to a method for processing pile fabrics, especially carpet piles, for the purpose of cleaning, stretching, burnishing and, if appropriate, permanently fixing the pile (5), the pile-carrying side of the fabric being subjected to a multiply recurring carding and fulling stress by an edge moving along a path, the pile fabric being moved on a curved path, the radius of curvature of which is in the opposite direction to the curvature of the path of the edge. This invention relates, furthermore, to an apparatus for carrying out the method, having a rotatably drivable working roller (4) with at least one edge arranged in the longitudinal direction, the working roller being disposed to bear against the pile side of the pile fabric, and at least one drivable transport roller arranged in contact wtih the fabric side facing away from the pile, the transport roller being disposed to bear linearly against the working roller, and the pile fabric possessing, in the region of this contact line, a curvature such that it bears over some of the circumference against the transport roller. <IMAGE>
