[origin: EP0453909A2] According to the method for adjusting and controlling a folding machine with a sheet feeder (3), a guide table (4) and a parallel folding unit (6) as well as possibly an additional knife folding unit (7), the length of a sample sheet is measured by means of a sensor and a position sensor (9) coupled to a drive element of the machine, the measured sheet length is stored and used for monitoring and control as a desired sheet length. This known desired sheet length can be used in order subsequently to measure the spacings between different sensors (11, 13, 14, 15). If sheet length and spacings between the sensors are then known, these can be used for control and monitoring of the machine. <IMAGE>
