[origin: EP0454189A2] The pliers tool has two operating handles (11B'', 12B'') controlling the relative displacement of two clamp plates, with a latch for securing the handles (11B'', 12B'') in the closed position. The latch uses a pivoted latch arm (150'') attached to one handle (11B'') and a cooperating latch element (3''') pivoted to the second handle (12B'') and acted on by a bias spring (116'') for acting as a bistable trip. The latch arm (150''') has two toothed latch forks (151a, 151b) selectively brought into engagement with a toothed operating element.
