Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9107585A1] The fuel-injection pump described has an electrical control unit (23) for the control of the amount of fuel, the control unit controlling an electrical actuator (25) which actuates the element (18) which determines the amount of fuel injected per pump-piston input stroke. The fuel is fed to the pump cylinder through a feed line (8) in which an adjustable throttle valve (40) is disposed. This valve is operated as a function of the position of the accelerator pedal (32), but provides an increasingly larger cross-sectional area of passage in the feed line (8) than corresponds to the fuel-measurement control by the control unit (23). A minimum cross-sectional area of passage is assured by a fixed throttle (46). This device enables the fuel-injection pump to be operated, if the electrical fuel control fails, in an emergency mode, without the emergency control device perturbing fuel measurement by means of the control unit. In particular, the fixed throttle (46) prevents the engine from racing, should fuel-injection control fail, unless demanded by the driver.
