[origin: EP0455226A2] An automatic switch-on device for a suction apparatus is described, especially for a vacuum cleaner, the vacuum cleaner motor being switched on and off as a function of a connected operating device. In order to make it possible for the operating device to be connected and disconnected very precisely as a function of the vacuum cleaner switching-on, it is provided that the associated operating device is connected and disconnected, initially without taking into account the suction power of the vacuum cleaner, in that a shunt is arranged in the current path to the operating device, the voltage drop across which shunt is amplified, as a result of which a closing contact of a relay connects the vacuum cleaner motor to the mains voltage. If the filter becomes excessively contaminated, a reduced pressure membrane sensor is provided which interrupts the current to the installation socket via an alternating contact of a relay.
