[origin: EP0455974A2] A control circuit for an electronically adjustable input stage (2) of a superheterodyne receiver comprising a processor (21) is to ensure a useful-signal/noise-signal ratio which is most advantageous in the respective receiving situation. For this purpose, at least two level meters (16, 17 and 18, respectively) are provided in the signal path. The processor (21) controls an attenuating section (11). With a level at the front level meter (16) which is high with respect to the level at a rear level meter (17 and, respectively, 18), it sets an attenuation at the attenuation section (11) of such a magnitude that an advantageous useful-signal/noise-signal ratio is obtained. When the levels are approximately identical, it reduces the attenuation of the attenuation section (11). <IMAGE>
