[origin: EP0457021A1] In order further to develop a vehicle jack (1), having a vertical column (2) to the lower end of which a base plate (4) is tiltably attached via a pivot (3), and having a supporting arm (6) mounted to be pivotable relative to said column by means of an actuating device (5), the base plate (4) being pivoted by means of a spring element into a predetermined position, in such a manner that it has a short storage length (8) in the completely collapsed state, but the base plate can be pivoted into the presentation position when presented to the vehicle so as to rest thereon with its entire surface, so far as possible, the spring element has a first spring region and a second spring region, the first spring region bears against the vertical column (2) and the base plate (4), and the second spring region bears against the end of the supporting arm (6), which has been moved completely in against the vertical column (2), and the base plate (4), the spring action for the second spring region being negative and greater in comparison with the spring action of the first spring region. <IMAGE>
