[origin: EP0457248A2] In an operating table having a length-adjustable operating surface which can be inclined about a transverse axis, a locking part (4) is provided on one part (1) of the length-adjustable operating table surface and is adjustable between a locking position, in which the locking part engages by means of projections (10) in recesses (11) on a non-length-adjustable part (12) of the operating table, and a release position, a pendulum (2) being rotatably mounted on the part (1) of the length-adjustable operating table surface in such a manner that, when the surface is inclined about its transverse axis, the pendulum (2) prevents disengagement of the locking part (4) from a locking position. <IMAGE>
