Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0458155A2] The invention relates to a process and an arrangement for central monitoring of the operation of lamps which are connected in parallel via power supply lines, each lamp being allocated an interrogation circuit, to confirm the lamp operation, and a coded address, and a central monitoring unit using the addresses to initiate an interrogation of the lamp operation. In order to achieve a minimum installation cost and to prevent the possibility of connection errors, it is proposed with the invention to supply a high-frequency carrier signal in the supply line in order to interrogate the lamp status, which carrier signal is used to transmit the addresses by modulation using audio-frequency pulses. The report on the lamp status preferably takes place by means of a current load on the carrier frequency transmitter. An arrangement is additionally proposed, in which the monitoring devices (18) on the lamp side are installed together with an electronic ballast unit (19) in the screw or plug base of a fluorescent lamp (20). <IMAGE>
