[origin: EP0461005A1] The invention relates to a convertible submarine which is capable of being transformed to change from a conventional mode of propulsion to a nuclear mode of propulsion. <??>According to the invention, the submarine (100) comprises a rear compartment (T) delimited by the pressure-resistant hull (101) and two transverse partitions (216, 217), in which there are grouped together the installations for producing and for storing electrical energy using batteries and diesel generators; the rear compartment can be transformed to convert the submarine for using an anaerobic source of energy, by replacing these installations with installations adapted to said energy source while keeping said pressure-resistant hull and said partitions, without this internal replacement leading to a substantial modification of the weight and of the mass centring of said rear compartment. <??>Application to the production of a convertible submarine which can easily be transformed into a nuclear version. <IMAGE>
