Improvement to devices used for causing molten metal to flow, characterised in that the effective section of the device, consisting of the available conduit surface for the flow of the metal upon progressive opening of the passage, is firstly kept small, and in that at least over a part of its height the flow conduit possesses an active profiled passage section, the profile extending as far as the limiting end of the conduit and having a shape comparable to that of a three- to four-pointed star, the bases of the points of the profile extending axially in the direction of the flow and used for guiding the flowing metal. <IMAGE>
