Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0462923A2] In a device (10A) for applying soft-elastic grommets on electric cable ends, in particular for plug elements protected against moisture, a sorting conveyor (11) is provided which feeds up the particular grommet in the vertical position of its longitudinal central axis. Adjoining this sorting conveyor downstream of the conveying flow is a conveying device (20; 23) which moves each grommet into a horizontal assembly position of its longitudinal central axis. The grommet is received in this assembly position by a sleeve-type tool (20), which has the same axis and serves the temporary centring reception of the insulated or stripped cable end, and/or by a centring mandrel (23). Moreover, a jaw-type tool (31) having at least two gripping jaws is provided, which grips the grommet and holds it fixed in space. The jaw-type tool (31) holds the grommet during the translatory introduction of the cable end into position. A reliable, quick mode of operation is achieved because the sleeve-type tool (20) and/or centring mandrel (23) are simultaneously constructed as a conveying device. These pass on the respective grommet following the sorting conveyor (11) in the horizontal assembly position of the longitudinal central axis of the grommet to the jaw-type tool (31). <IMAGE>
