[origin: EP0463529A1] The process makes it possible, by detecting the operating temperature, to detect the current state of the spinning-ring/runner combination (4, 5) and to adapt the speed program of the spinning or twisting machine to higher speeds. The operating temperatures are detected by an infrared measurement unit (11), guided past the measuring positions of the spinning stations (1, 1' 1'', etc), or by contact thermocouples and are evaluated by a set-point computer (30), thus leading to a control signal for the spindle drive (22). The productivity of the spinning or twisting machine, for example during the run-in operation of runners (5), can thereby be increased. <IMAGE>
