[origin: JPH0596340A] PURPOSE: To regenerate the used foundry sand at a low cost by supplying heated air having the limited temperature into a drying device, drying the foundry sand, supplying this sand into a mechanical cleaning device and supplying the air from the drying device again to the drying device through the mechanical cleaning device. CONSTITUTION: The heated air having the temperature clearly below the sintering temperature of clay-containing binder and below the combustion temperature of organic binder is supplied into a drying stage (crushing and drying device) 6 to dry the used foundry sand having the remaining moisture. At this time, the air supplying temperature is limited to the maximum 550 deg.C. Subsequently, the dried sand is supplied directly to the first mechanical cleaning stage (impact separator) 11 and the air-gas mixture exhausted from the drying stage 6 is supplied again into the drying stage 6 through the second mechanical cleaning stage 40, drying filter 13 and a heating device 8 successively connected in the circulating system.

Zur Aufbereitung von Altsanden mit hohen tonartigen Anteilen wird zwar mit einer erhöhten Prozeßtemperatur gearbeitet, diese jedoch nach oben so begrenzt, daß eine Schamottisierung des Sandes und eine Verbrennung organischer Binderbestandteile nicht erfolgt. Das Luftgasgemisch in einem Trockner und einer nachgeschalteten mechanischen Aufbereitungsstufe wird im Kreislauf geführt und auf die Prozeßtemperatur unter Ausnutzung von thermischer Energie erhitzt, die durch Abzweigung und Verbrennung eines Teils des Luftgasgemisches aus dem Kreislauf gewonnen wird.
