[origin: EP0465825A1] In a window or door construction comprising, arranged in a casement 1, multi-pane glazing in the form of a stepped double glazing unit 10, a shoulder 14 of a profiled part 13 of the casement engages under the shorter pane 11 of the stepped double glazing unit 10. The shoulder 14 has a receiving groove 18 for the insertion of an inner leg 20 of a holding piece 19, the holding piece engaging by a shorter, outer leg 21 round the outer edge of the double glazing unit. The outer leg runs at an acute angle and the inner leg at an obtuse angle with respect to the web 22 of the holding piece 19 which connects them, so that as the inner leg 20 is pressed increasingly into the receiving groove 18, the clamping force pressing the unit 10 against, on the room side, a bearing leg of the casement profile 13 increases. The web 22 is strengthened increasingly to the inside, so that, when the holding piece is fitted, an increased clamping force is also obtained in the plane of the unit. <IMAGE>
