[origin: EP0466063A1] In a refuse bin with a refuse container (4) and a lid (5) for closing the refuse container (4), the said container (4) can be hinged on a side wall (9) of a cupboard (2) or the like so as to be capable of swivelling about an essentially vertical container swivel axis (6) and the lid (5) can be hinged on the side wall (9) so as to be capable of swivelling about an essentially horizontal lid swivel axis (12). In this arrangement, there is mounted at the front, in the region of the angle formed by the side wall (9) and the door (3) of the cupboard (2), a retaining bracket (7) which extends over only a small part of the depth of the lid (5), the lid swivel pin (12) is attached by only one end to the side wall (9), runs perpendicularly with respect to the side wall (9) and is guided in a recess (15) made in the lid (5) which likewise runs perpendicularly with respect to the side wall (9), and the rear part of the lid (5) swings downwards under the action of its own weight when the refuse container (4) is swung out. The opening characteristic of the bin can be optimised by mounting the lid swivel pin (12) by its end in the retaining bracket (7) and by arranging the recess (15) in the lid (5) in proximity to the front edge of the lid (5), preferably in the front third of the lid (5). <IMAGE>
