[origin: EP0467053A1] A process for the dehalogenation of media containing organohalogen compounds by means of an alkali metal supported by inert solid particles envisages passing the material to be treated through a column-like bed of the treatment agent at a temperature from room temperature to 160 DEG C for 1 - 120 minutes. The treatment agent contains 10 - 30% by weight of alkali metal, based on the weight of the carrier. The amount of the bed must be such that its alkali metal content is sufficient for binding the halogen eliminated. The invention also relates to a process for recovering the carrier from the spent treatment agent.
