Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0467419A1] For the purpose of collecting and disposing of waste material, refuse or the like, hinged containers 1 are used which have two half- shells 2a and 2b which are separated from one another by means of a bulkhead partition 8 and are interconnected in an articulated manner at their upper side along a swivel axis 3. A coupling and opening device comprising a suspended cross-member 6 which is arranged on the jib 7 of a crane and is provided with hydraulically actuated hooks serves to empty these hinged containers 1, said hooks being capable of engaging with hook-in elements 4a and 4b situated on both half-shells 2a and 2b. A hydraulic cylinder is connected to the hooks as actuator. So that the two half-shells 2a and 2b of the hinged container 1 can be successively emptied in an orderly manner by remote actuation, the hydraulic cylinder can be moved from its basic position into two different actuating positions, of which each corresponds to one of two different spreading positions of the half-shells 2a and 2b. The first actuating position of the hydraulic cylinder is determined by the metering cylinder of a metering unit, the filling volume of which corresponds to only a fraction of the filling volume of a cylinder space in the hydraulic cylinder. The second actuating position of the hydraulic cylinder can, by contrast, only be achieved after manual operation and opening of a relief valve. <IMAGE>
