[origin: EP0467836A1] The refuse-collecting vehicle has a removable collecting container (1) and a loading unit (7) which can be swivelled away from the latter. The loading unit (7) has a refuse-receiving chamber (6) and a loading shovel (11) which can be moved through said chamber to the container-filling orifice (2), the blade (23) of this shovel being detachable from the loading unit (7) in order to close the container- filling orifice (2) and being holdable on the collecting container (1). The refuse-collecting vehicle, together with its swung-away loading unit (7), can be moved a short distance. As a result, it is possible for the collecting container (1) to be satisfactorily offloaded onto a railway wagon. The refuse-collecting method described herein permits the full collecting containers (1) to be set down at a depot or offloaded onto railway wagons, in which case, when sufficient collecting containers (1) have been loaded thereon, these wagons are transported to a dump or to an incinerator. This makes it possible to exploit the refuse- collecting vehicles to a high degree, since they are now only used for the collection of refuse and not for the long-distance transportation thereof, which can be carried out using significantly less expensive vehicles (railway, articulated lorries, etc). <IMAGE>
