[origin: EP0468296A1] In order to achieve, in a single wheel steering device for at least one horizontally rotationally movable single wheel of a vehicle, in particular rail vehicle, an optimum running stability of the individual wheel in straight-ahead travel and a curve setting with low steering forces (butting forces in the case of rail vehicles), it is proposed to assign a direction predetermining device to the single wheel. The direction predetermining device comprises a flow channel (1, 1[216C]) for a flowing medium, a flow body (8, 8[216C]) which is swivellably arranged in the flow channel (1, 1[216C]) in the stream and coupled to the single wheel for the purpose of taking over the flow direction in order to transfer it to the single wheel, and a device (4, 6, 7; 4[216C], 6[216C], 7[216C]) for changing the pressure and/or speed of the flowing medium, which device is activated when a direction changing force is exerted on the flowing body (8, 8[216C]) by the single wheel. <IMAGE>
