[origin: EP0468313A1] The invention relates to a support material based on aluminium which bears a hydrophilic coating which consists of a copolymer of a monomer carrying basic groups with a monomer which carries acidic groups and optionally a monomer having neutral groups or salts of the copolymer with a metal cation which is at least divalent. The material which has been rendered hydrophilic serves as a support for photosensitive substances for the production of printing plates.
