Abstract (en)
There is disclosed herein a kiln (10) for the heating and firing of ware, usually ceramic, which includes a preheat zone (12), a heat treatment or soaking zone (14) operating above about 1400 DEG F., and a post-heat zone (16). In the heat treatment zone (14) the walls (22,24) are fabricated of refractory wallboard (36,38,40) or tile elements and includes an austenitic foil material (42) applied to the hot face of the refractory in an interlocking or shiplap structure so as to wrap and surround the refractory board and prevent refractory spalling from entering the soaking zone (14) and thereby contaminating the ware. <IMAGE>
