Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0469350A2] An electrical connector for the connection of electrical conductors, especially of raster grid leads, having an insulating material housing for a number of contact elements corresponding to the number of poles, which contact elements in each case have at least one connecting limb which can be firmly anchored to a connector support such as a circuit board, the insulating material housing being supported on a bearing section of the contact element such that it can move between a first and a second setting, and the contact element having spring-elastic clamping limbs to form a clamping zone with mutually opposite clamping edges which engage on the conductor, is characterised in that, close to the connecting limb of the contact element, two spring limbs are integrally formed, which extend like tines of a fork away from said contact element in the direction of the conductor to be inserted, and whose free end sections pointing towards one another form the clamping limbs having clamping edges and grip the conductor between them like tongs. In this way, in the case of extremely miniaturised connectors, the large clamping forces which are important for a reliable electrical connection are transmitted to the conductor to be connected. Furthermore, the arrangement allows the clamping zone to be reopened easily in order to remove the conductor without destroying it. <IMAGE>
