Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0472265A2] The invention relates to a method of and a device for regulating the luminosity of a gas-discharge lamp (2), especially a fluorescent lamp, according to which method the gas-discharge lamp (2) is supplied with alternating voltage (U1, U2) to be obtained from an alternating-voltage source (1). In order to be able to regulate the luminosity of the gas-discharge lamp in both directions within very wide limits without safety risks caused by high voltages or without disturbances caused by high rates of change of the current, both electrodes (2a, 2b) of the gas-discharge lamp (2) are supplied from the alternating-voltage source (1) in such a way that the voltage level of each end of the lamp (2) is sufficient to cause a glow discharge at the end of the lamp (2) and the alternating-voltage signals (U1, U2) to be supplied are synchronized with each other and the synchronization between them is regulated for the regulation of the current flowing through the gas-discharge lamp (2). <IMAGE>
