[origin: EP0398113A1] The description relates to the use of water-emulsifiable esters of saturated and/or unsaturated carboxylic acids with up to 36 C atoms, which are liquid or at least plastically deformable at the working temperature and have flash-points of at least 80 DEG C, and mono and/or polyvalent alcohols as at least the major component of the dispersed oil phase of water-based O/W emulsion drilling fluids which are suitable for the environmentally acceptable exploitation of geological formations and may, if desired, contain insoluble, finely divided fillers to form water-based O/W emulsion drilling muds and/or further additives like emulsifiers, fluid-loss additives, wetting agents, alkaline reserves and/or aids for the inhibition of highly water-sensitive drilled rock.

On utilise des esters d'acides carboxyliques saturés et/ou insaturés ayant jusqu'à 36 atomes de carbone et des alcools monovalents et/ou polyvalents, susceptibles d'être émulsifiés dans l'eau, liquides et/ou au moins plastiquement déformables à la température de travail, et ayant un point d'inflammation d'au moins 80°C, en tant qu'élément au moins principal de la phase huileuse dispersée de fluides de forage de puits à base d'eau du type émulsion huile dans eau. Ces fluides de forage sont utiles pour exploiter de manière écologique des formations géologiques. Ils contiennent, le cas échéant, des agents alourdissants insolubles finement dispersés qui servent à former des boues de forage à base d'eau du type émulsion huile dans eau et/ou d'autres additifs tels que des émulsifiants, des épaississants, des réticulants, des réserves alcalines et/ou des inhibiteurs de roches forées ayant une sensibilité élevée à l'eau.
