Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0472764A1] A method for reducing the colour noise in the chrominance signals of a television image by means of an HQ (= High-Quality) filter (1) is described, in which a difference signal (FD) is derived from the chrominance signal (FR) of each line, on the colour component (F) of which a noise component (R) with a stochastic spectral distribution is superimposed, and from a noise-reduced reference chrominance signal (FK1) obtained from the chrominance signals of the vertically preceding lines, and in which the reference chrominance signal (FK1), which is included in the calculation of the difference signal (FD) of the vertically following line, is produced by recursive signal processing operations of the digital filter (1), and in which the noise component (R) of the chrominance signal is reduced by transversal signal processing operations. It is provided that the difference signal (FD), before passing through the recursive and the transversal signal processing operations, is supplied to a limiter (10) of the digital filter (1) in which, by means of amplitude-dependent attenuation, a modified difference signal (FDM) is derived which is included instead of the original difference signal (FD) in the recursive and in the transversal signal processing operations. <IMAGE>
