[origin: EP0472863A1] An apparatus for making bristle tufts has a box-type magazine (1) for bristles (2), which have been cut to length, and at least one tubular tuft gripper (6) which can be inserted in the magazine (1) and thereby separates a bristle tuft from the bristle supply and which widens on the inside from the opening (22) over a short axial length (s) in a constant curve and, adjoining said curve, has an axially parallel wall (23) on the greatest part of its axial length with formation of a larger inside cross-section compared to the opening. The magazine (1) has an oscillating bottom (5), which "fluidises" the bristles, and an oscillating wall section (4) which jolts the bristles into a flush position. <IMAGE>
