[origin: EP0472909A1] An apparatus for forming rows of bottles and for forming bottle layers (L) from these rows, for example for conveying bottles away from a bottle-producing machine and for palletising the bottle layers (L). The apparatus has a feed table (8), on which the bottles are distributed into a plurality of channels (4) by means of a distributor device (6). Individual bottle layers (L) are separated from the so formed bottle rows by means of a layer separator (3.1, 3.2). The bottle rows are pushed together by means of a transverse displacement device (2), in such a way that the spacing between the individual rows is eliminated and the bottles bear against one another in a staggered manner. This makes it possible to obtain a rapid transfer of the bottles into the bottle layers (L), without defects occurring and without bottles tipping over. <IMAGE>
