[origin: EP0473061A2] In order to improve a camshaft for internal combustion engines having a functional part with functional elements and a driving part held on the functional part and to improve a process for manufacturing a shaft of this kind in such a way that the driving part can be manufactured with any desired geometrical shape and/or more cheaply, it is proposed that the driving part and the functional part should be separate parts and that the driving part should be joined to the functional part by welding. <IMAGE>
