[origin: EP0473221A1] Process for linear positioning of a high-pressure lance (1) in a steam generator, according to which a reference point (13 or 17) is determined on the exterior of the casing (4) of the generator by introducing a detector device (10) into the free space (5) in the bank (6) of tubes (7), which detector device (10) determines the position of the tubes (7) of a row bordering this free space (5), and then the lance (1) bearing an instrument (2) is positioned in relation to this reference point (13 or 17), after which the lance (1) is displaced with the aid of a drive device (10) in an intermittent manner, each time over a distance equal to N times the spacing p between the axes of two adjacent tubes (7). <IMAGE>
