[origin: WO9114659A1] In a process for manufacturing fibrous magnesium oxide, one or more magnesium neutral carbonates containing water of crystallization, in particular magnesium carbonate trihydrate, are separated in the form of needle-shaped particles from an aqueous solution, dried and then calcined to fibrous magnesium oxide, the particle shape being retained.

Procédé pour la fabrication d'oxyde de magnésium fibreux. Dans une solution aqueuse on sépare un ou plusieurs carbonates neutres de magnésium contenant de l'eau de cristallisation, en particulier le trihydrate de carbonate de magnésium, sous forme de particules aciculaires, puis lesdits carbonates sont séchés et ensuite calcinés en oxyde de magnésium fibreux, tout en conservant la forme des particules.
