[origin: EP0474134A1] Side-actuation mechanism (22) for the winding shaft of roller blinds, which is mounted rotatably, on the side to be actuated by the mechanism, on a bearing journal (24), itself held fixedly in terms of rotation, and which is rotatable in the winding and the unwinding direction by means of a rope sheave (12) which is connected fixedly in terms of rotation to said mechanism and over which a pull rope or a chain is guided. Between the winding shaft and the bearing journal (24) are arranged a friction brake (60 to 68) braking the winding shaft and a driving part (36) which is held between the friction brake and a freewheel (42; 44) fixedly in terms of rotation or rotatably relative to an adjacent part, depending on the direction of rotation, by means of the freewheel. The friction brake (60 to 68) is arranged between the winding shaft and the driving part (36) and the freewheel is arranged within the driving part (36) between the latter and the rotationally fixed bearing journal (34), and arranged in the freewheel is at least one detent pawl which is provided in or on the bearing journal (24) held fixedly in terms of rotation and which is urged into its detaining position. <IMAGE>
