[origin: EP0474428A1] The present invention relates to an optical disk data storage system having an optical data storage member with a multiplicity of data storage locations and comprising signal transfer means for optically sensing data recorded in a first storage location on the storage member including error detecting and correcting means for correcting sensed data to corrected data and means for establishing and measuring acceptability criteria of the data sensing, means for establishing a high threshold of acceptability criteria for sensed data, means for comparing the measured acceptability criteria with the established high threshold for determining whether the measured acceptability criteria meet the high threshold, and means for detecting that the measured acceptability high threshold is not acceptable and then for activating the signal transfer means for recording the sensed data at a second data storage location on said storage member.
