[origin: GB2231770A] A method and apparatus for separating particles having a larger area-to-weight ratio from those having a smaller area-to-weight ratio in a series of steps including moving the mixed particles transversely across a moving gas stream to entrain therein a large proportion of those particles having a larger area-to-weight ratio. An illustrated embodiment is an apparatus comprising a number of modular threshing (4, 8A-C) and classifying (6, 10A-B, 12) units connected by conveyors within housing (20A-G). When used to separated lamina from stem of tobacco leaf, the lamina is entrained in the gas flow and removed on transverse conveyors (16A-D). The stem is removed from an exit (18). The design of each threshing unit is such that all or part of the casing may be slidably removed to reveal the thresher's interior.

Méthode et appareillage pour séparer les particules ayant un plus grand rapport surface/poids de celles ayant un plus petit rapport surface/poids au moyen d'une série d'étapes comprenant l'agitation transversale des particules mélangées dans un flux de gaz en mouvement pour y entraîner une forte proportion des particules ayant un rapport surface/poids plus important. Une version de cet appareillage comprend plusieurs batteurs modulaires (4, 8A-C) et des unités de tri (6, 10A-B, 12) connectées par des transporteurs situés à l'intérieur du coffrage (20A-G). Lorsqu'on l'utilise pour séparer le limbe de la tige de la feuille de tabac, le limbe est entraîné dans le flux de gaz et redéposé sur les transporteurs transversaux (16A-D). La tige est dirigée vers une sortie (18). La configuration de chaque unité de battage est telle qu'elle permet de retirer par coulissement la totalité ou une partie du coffrage pour accéder à l'intérieur du batteur.
