[origin: EP0474995A2] The invention relates to a screw press (1) which comprises a press frame (8), a ram (2) actuated by a screw (3), a means (hydraulic cylinder (4)) for the backward movement of the ram (2) and an upper thrust bearing (9) which interacts with the screw (3). During the forming operation, a reaction force is produced in the press frame since the screw is loaded with a compressive force and attempts to deflect upwards. In response to this, there is in the press frame an upper thrust bearing which is arranged above the screw nut. This thrust bearing prevents the screw from deflecting upwards during the loading resulting from the forming operation. To make the screw press more insensitive towards an overshooting of the nominal force or to eliminate such an overshooting as far as possible, the invention proposes that the thrust bearing (9) be supported relative to the press frame (8) by a hydraulic volume (10). <IMAGE>
