[origin: EP0475301A2] What is described is a code input device for a predetermined quantity of code characters, which is used, for example in an access or authorisation checking device, as a safeguard against unauthorised users. The code characters are reproduced on a display device (4,4') in a user-independently predetermined sequence under the control of an electronic processing unit. When a correct code character appears, it is acknowledged by the user via an operating element (19, 19'). This prevents the possibility that conclusions will be drawn as to the code by the preparation of the operating elements (17-19, 17'-19') and/or by an observation of the cycle of the code input. <IMAGE>
