Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0475886A1] The opening method and means have been specially developed in order to be integrated into a single apparatus and in order to permit a reliable splicing of two paper ribbons which have to surround cigarette filters. <??>Firstly, a cylindrical grabbing device (3), consisting of a stationary tubular portion (32) comprising an opening (30), in a cylinder sector, provided with a series of teeth (34) and of a movable inner portion (31) which also comprises a series of teeth (36) intercalated with the previous set of teeth, grabs the ends of turns (21) which are previously cut on a full paper roll (2a) and brings the paper ribbon (22) which is unwound from this full roll opposite a ribbon (20) which is unwound from a virtually empty roll (2). <??>An assembly device (7) comprising two opposing rollers (70, 71) which are pressed against each other, on either side of the two paper ribbons, creates an assembly by perforation of the two ribbons according to an arrangement which ensures the strength of the said assembly. <IMAGE>
