[origin: WO9014955A1] The colours printed on a medium (5) are controlled for mutual displacement during the printing process by printing the medium (5) with at least a characteristic pattern coinciding for the colours and leaving a plurality of evenly distributed, uncoloured fields, where the colours for the fields, which are uncoloured when correctly positioned, are detected. The control is performed with a system comprising a printing unit (10), a colour measuring apparatus (20) and a register control unit (30). The medium (5) is printed with a plurality of control fields with the printing unit (10), the colour of the control fields being measured with the colour measuring apparatus (20) which generates an input signal to the register control unit (30) in response to the measured colours. In response to the input signals, the register control unit (30) either activates an alarm or generates control signals for correction of the printing devices (11-19) forming part of the printing unit (10).
