[origin: EP0477166A1] An apparatus for reducing root swellings on tree logs possesses a plurality of drivers (5), aligned obliquely to the tree log, and lateral support rollers (8) on which the tree log rests. By actuating the drivers (5), the tree log is turned about its longitudinal axis and moved in the longitudinal direction, so that it is guided by its root swelling towards a cutting tool (3) which is set obliquely to the longitudinal axis of the tree log and is aligned so as to be inclined upwards towards the drivers (5), so that its enveloping surface substantially tangentially touches from below the plane defined by the drivers (5). <IMAGE>
