Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9015918A1] The piston engine disclosed, which is particularly suitable for use as an internal-combustion engine, comprises a housing (1) with a rotor (5) mounted to rotate about a first axis of rotation (7), the rotor having three pairs of cylinders (15) staggered at 120 DEG to each other about the first axis of rotation (7). Located in the cylinders (15) are pistons (17) which are linked rigidly to each other by piston rods (19). Also located in the housing is a crankshaft (23) mounted to rotate about a second axis (25) running parallel to, and staggered eccentrically by a given distance (e) with respect to, the first axis (7). The piston rods (19) of each of pair of pistons are mounted in eccentric bearings (27, 31) on the crankshaft (23). The eccentric bearings (27, 31) define axes of rotation (33) which are staggered at 120 DEG with respect to each other and fixed with respect to the crankshaft (23). The rotor (25) is coupled to the crankshaft (23) to exclude relative rotational motion, solely by means of the piston rods (19) and the eccentric bearings (27, 31) fixed with respect to the crankshaft. The intake air is compressed by an exhaust supercharger (37, 39) and supplied to the internal-combustion engine via a heat exchanger (45) to increase efficiency.
